Vintage Centre Pin Antique Fishing Reel Gallery : R101 - R108

Descriptions:

Please take the time to read an items description carefully before deciding on a purchase. We will try to list any mechanical faults as well as all cosmetic issues with each individual vintage fishing reel. The collectibles listed in this category are intended for display purposes and not serviced with the intention of being used although some items will be capable of functioning without an issue. Many of the reels listed below will be unmarked with regard to a manufacturer although commonly recognised premium names such as Hardy, Allcocks, Carter, Witcher and Youngs are also listed. Early manufactured centre pin fishing reels are very tactile, extremely well made and feature only the highest quality materials, they display very well, and are strong and durable, in most cases are waterproof and resilient to wear and tear and the elements. Please be aware of the reel sizes, in hand they are relatively small ( see dimensions ).

 Unmarked 2.5" Mahogany Straight-back Centre Pin Reel ( £43.95 - Order Number - R101 )

A reworked 2.5" Mahogany Victorian centre pin fishing reel with full heavy duty brass fittings. All original parts with the exception of two replacement screws to retain the brass spindle spine. Runs well, a slight sticky point that is easy to resolve should this reel ever be considered for use. It displays very well, one handle is fixed the other turns as it should between the fingers. Fully stripped, cleaned and polished and a great cabinet item

  Milbro 3" Brass Crank Wind Centre Pin Reel ( £39.95 - Order Number - R102 )

A little unsure on the date of this full brass 3 inch reel from the English firm of Milbro. Most of the companies fishing related goods date from around 1940-1960 so I am fairly confident it falls between these dates. Mass produced and featuring full brass throughout, it is finished with a Bakelite working handle and is clearly marked " Made in England " and with the Milbro trademark stamped onto the face plate. These clean up extremely well and make a fantastic display item, this reel is fully functional, the spool turns nicely, the side lock button moves but has no apparent effect and does not seem to be working. It has had a wax coating to preserve the shine, has minimal pitting or corrosion and the handle is intact and turning as it should.

Unmarked 3.5" Mahogany Straight-back Centre Pin Reel ( £64 - Order Number - R103 )

A three and a half inch quality reel dating to around the turn of the Century in totally original condition and with the bonus of a lovely audible working ratchet. The fittings have a wonderful patina from years of handling wear and the Mahogany woodwork is a deep rich red and in A1 condition. The reel turns well with a slight snag at one point during the rotation, The brass foot still retains much of the original gilt and lacquer finish with the ratchet button sliding as it should. Paint loss to the handles which is to be expected but totally fitting for the age of this reel. An exceptional looking vintage reel in a popular size that has been well cared for, the only thing missing is a makers mark. It displays and handles very well.

Allcocks 3.5" Walnut Straight-back Centre Pin Reel ( £69 - Order Number - R104 )

Reworked for display rather than use, this 3.5" Nottingham reel from  the renowned and respected manufacturer of Allcocks & Co of Redditch, England has been sanded, stained sealed and waxed. This not only brings out the fabulous grain of the woodwork, it also retains the antiqued appearance whilst removing any dents, dings or finish lifting. Both handles are fixed, with one oddly showing more handling wear than the other although both are original to the reel, the foot or brass seat still has much of the original gilt finish and is clearly marked with the Allcocks moniker. It has all original screws and fittings, turns freely, although the locking nut dictates how freely it runs, for this reason along with the finish applied this reel is recommended for display purposes only. There are two old screw holes to the reverse side where the line guide once sat. Lovely Walnut woodwork on this one and a highly desirable piece, manufactured around c1900.

Brass Polishing:

We also offer a brass polishing service, where we remove all exterior brass fittings and polish to a high sheen which seems to be popular when matching a metronome to a piano for display purposes. We do not clean the fittings by default unless we feel the unit warrants it and any item shown on the website without cleaned brass-work is sold as viewed. We will however, under instruction polish fittings once a unit has been purchased for a standard charge of £9.95. Occasionally metronomes can be fitted with nickel silver or copper metal-work and in most cases these are best left to develop a deep handling patina. We will advise if we do not think that a unit would benefit from this service.
